Lodi, California, USA, 2015
This wine is a blend of 93% Zinfandel and 7% Syrah; aromas of plum and cherry are dominant on the nose backed up by cinnamon spice. Full-bodied, it has a firm tannin structure, which develops into a long. smooth finish.
Grapes are sourced from the Lodi American appellation, which is located inland roughly 50 miles east of Napa. The region is characterised by cool, wet winters with dense ground fog and warm, dry summers.
It has been a major grape growing region since the 1850s and was named Wine Region of the Year by Wine Enthusiast at their annual awards in 2015.
Fruit from different blocks is fermented separately to preserve the characteristics of each prior to blending; the wine is then aged for 12 months in oak, 25% of which is new.
